Terms of Sale, Returns & Refunds

Last updated 5 August 2026

These terms apply when you buy something from the Canvasland online shop, and to custom work we quote and make for you. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.

Who you're buying from

Canvasland, Unit 3C — 5 Bush Street, Levin 5510, New Zealand. Contact sales@canvasland.co.nz or +64 6 368 7930.

Prices and GST

Shop prices are shown in New Zealand dollars and include GST. Shipping is calculated and shown separately at checkout before you pay.

Prices published on our custom product pages are indicative starting prices. Where a price is shown excluding GST it is labelled '+ GST'. A quote for custom work is the price that applies to that job, and is fixed once accepted.

Orders

Placing an order is an offer to buy. Your order is accepted when we confirm it or dispatch it, whichever happens first. Occasionally we may need to decline an order — for example if an item has sold out or a price was listed in error — in which case we'll contact you and refund anything you've paid in full.

Payment

Payment is taken at checkout by Stripe. We never receive or store your card details.

For custom work, payment terms are set out in your quote. Where the job is valued over $1,000 we ask for a deposit, which confirms your materials and your place in the build schedule. Below that, the balance is payable on completion unless your quote says otherwise.

Made-to-order and custom items

Much of what we sell is made specifically for you — cut, sized or specified to your requirements. Custom and made-to-order items cannot be returned or refunded simply because you've changed your mind, because they can't be resold.

This does not affect your rights if the item is faulty, not as described, or doesn't do what we said it would. Please check your measurements, colours and specifications carefully before confirming a custom order.

Change of mind on stocked items

For standard stocked shop items that are not made to order, we'll accept a return within 14 days of delivery if the item is unused, in its original condition and packaging, and you can show proof of purchase. Return shipping is at your cost, and we'll refund the item price once we've received and checked it.

Contact us before sending anything back so we can confirm the item qualifies and give you the return address.

If something's faulty

Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act apply and cannot be contracted out of where you're buying as a consumer. If something we've supplied is faulty, doesn't match its description, or isn't fit for its purpose, contact us with your order details and a photo of the problem.

Depending on the nature of the fault we'll repair it, replace it, or refund it. Where a failure is substantial you can choose between a refund or a replacement. We'll cover return shipping on faulty goods.

Workmanship and product warranties

Warranty periods vary by product and are stated on the relevant product page. As a general guide, our shade sails carry 10 years on the fabric and 3 years on workmanship, and CanopyTech acrylic roof systems carry a 10-year warranty.

Warranties cover materials and workmanship in normal use. They don't cover damage from accidents, misuse, alteration, failure to maintain or re-tension as advised, or weather events beyond the product's rated conditions. Where a specialist system is manufactured by one of our partners, the manufacturer's warranty applies alongside our own responsibility for the installation.

Delivery

We ship within New Zealand. Shipping is charged at checkout based on the size of the item and your region, including a rural delivery option.

We'll give an indicative dispatch or lead time for made-to-order items — these are estimates, not guarantees, and we'll tell you if anything is running late. Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery.

Cancelling an order

If you need to cancel, contact us as soon as possible. We can usually cancel and refund in full before an item is made or dispatched. Once work on a custom item has started, we may need to charge for materials and labour already committed, and we'll tell you what that is before proceeding.

Business customers

Where you're buying for the purposes of a business, the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply, and our liability is limited to repairing, replacing or refunding the goods supplied. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit.

Governing law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law and the New Zealand courts have exclusive jurisdiction.
