How it works
Three numbers, two photos, one new awning.

Step 1
Measure the awning
Three numbers in millimetres: arm centre to arm centre, the old fabric edge to edge as a check, and the projection along the fabric. Then two photos.

Step 2
Choose the fabric, see the price
Blockout PVC or acrylic canvas, a colour, and a valance or not. The price updates as you go, and it's the price you pay.

Step 3
Fit it to your roller
Your arms, roller and spring stay on the van. The new fabric slides into the awning rail and the roller the same way the old one came out.
Measuring, in six lines
- Wind the awning all the way out and set the arms the way you normally use it.
- Awning length: from the centre of one arm to the centre of the other. On a cassette awning, the case from end to end.
- Old fabric: from one side edge to the other. It will be a bit shorter than the length, and that's our check.
- Projection: along the sloping fabric, from the awning rail on the van wall to the centre of the roller.
- Write them down in millimetres. A 15 ft awning is about 4570.
- Take two photos: the whole awning out, and a close-up of one end of the roller where the fabric goes in.
Fitting, in outline
- Lock the roller's spring, or let it down, the way your awning's manual says. The spring is under tension: don't take an end cap off until it's safe.
- Slide the old fabric's bead out of the awning rail and out of the roller, and the valance out of its slot.
- Feed the new fabric's wall edge into the awning rail and its other edge into the roller slot, with one person feeding and one pulling.
- Centre the fabric on the roller, put the end caps back, and re-tension the spring the way the manual says.
- Slide the valance into its slot.
- Roll it in and out a few times and check it winds on square.
Cassette awnings (many Fiamma, Thule and Omnistor models) have the roller inside a case that has to be opened. If you've not done it before, read the maker's instructions first, or bring the van to us and we'll fit it.
Which awnings
If it rolls out on a roller, we can make the fabric.
Open roller awnings
Dometic and A&E (8300, 8500, 8700, 9100), Carefree Fiesta and Freedom, Aussie Traveller, Camec. The fabric runs from the awning rail on the wall to a roller held out on two arms.
Cassette awnings
Fiamma, Thule Omnistor, Cvana and the like, with the roller inside an aluminium case on the wall. The fabric is replaceable, but the case has to come apart: read the fitting note above before you order.
Something else
If it rolls out on a roller with a beaded edge in a rail, we can make the fabric. Not sure what you've got? Choose "another make" and your photos tell us.

Retro pole awning, roof only
The striped sun awning, made for your old van.
A roof that slides into the awning rail on your caravan and stands on two or three poles with guy ropes. Striped acrylic with a scalloped edge, the way they used to be, or plain acrylic. Measure the rail, see the price, and we courier it.
- Length: the straight run of awning rail you want it on, end to end.
- Depth: how far out from the van you want it. 2200 mm is usual.
- Rope: NZ awning rail takes an 8 to 10 mm rope edge. Tell us yours, or leave it to your photo and we'll match it.
- A photo of that side of the van, with the whole rail in the shot.
Two poles up to 3600 mm long, three over that. Poles, guy ropes and pegs if you need them.

What if I measure wrong?
Your photos are our check. We compare them to your numbers before anything is cut, and the old fabric is always a little shorter than the arm-to-arm length, so the two numbers check each other. If something doesn't add up we ring you first.
Why not just measure the old fabric?
Vinyl shrinks as it ages, so the old fabric is usually shorter than it was made. Arm centre to arm centre is how the awning makers size them, so it's the number we work from. The old fabric is our cross-check.
I have an annexe. Will it still fit?
It will if the projection matches, so tick the annexe box and we'll make the new fabric to your old projection exactly. Annexe walls are cut to it, and a skin that comes out further than the old one can stop them fitting.
How do you know what size rope to put in the edges?
From the close-up of the roller end. The bead in the wall rail, the roller and the valance can each be a different size, from about 5 to 8 mm depending on the make, and we match each one. If the photo doesn't settle it, we'll ask you to measure the old rope before we cut.
Is fitting it a DIY job?
On an open roller awning, usually, with two people and a stepladder. The roller holds a wound spring, so lock it or let it down the way your awning's manual says before the old fabric comes off, and don't take an end cap off a roller under tension. Cassette awnings take more dismantling. If you'd rather not, bring the van to Levin and we'll fit it.
PVC or acrylic?
Blockout PVC is what most roll-out awnings come with: it sheds rain, wipes clean and throws a dark shade. Acrylic canvas is woven, so it breathes and stays cooler underneath, and it costs more. It's showerproof, not waterproof, in steady rain.
How long until it arrives?
Each skin is cut and made to order on our Levin floor. Current lead time is 2–3 weeks, shown here and on your order, then courier.
My awning is torn, not worn out. Can you repair it?
Often, yes. Book a repair instead and bring it in, or send photos first and we'll tell you whether it's worth repairing.
Rather we did it?
Bring the van to Levin and we'll measure, make and fit it.
